セイコー、グランドセイコー、来年のバーゼルへの不参加を正式表明！

セイコー、グランドセイコー、BaselWorld 2020に参加せず！


もうかなりの噂にはなっていたので、ご存知の方も多いと思うが、1986年以来30年以上毎年参加してきたバーゼルワールドに、来年のセイコーならびにグランドセイコーは参加しない、という正式な発表がなされた。
まだ、国際版のプレスリリースのみで日本語のものは発行されていないが、以下、要約する。

Seiko has attended Baselworld every year since international brands were first invited in 1986. We have built our annual program around Baselworld and, for 30 years, Baselworld has been the occasion of the international launch of our new Seiko, and more recently, Grand Seiko collections.

The timing of Baselworld 2020 is considerably later than in previous years. The new date is too late for the launch of our Seiko collection and is particularly challenging for Grand Seiko for which we have a special program in celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of its creation. As a result, and with great regret, we have decided that our two brands will not be present at Baselworld in 2020.

We will hold regional and national events of our own for both Grand Seiko and Seiko at the earliest opportunity....（中略）....  can see our new collections and experience the latest developments in the Seiko and Grand Seiko worlds. We look forward to sharing our 2020 program with you.

バーゼルワールド2020のタイミングは例年に比べ遅すぎます。新たに今般変更された日程は、セイコーの新作発表には遅すぎ、今年60周年を迎えるグランドセイコーの新作発表を考えると、非常に厳しい日程です。結果として、そして大変残念なことですが、セイコーとグランドセイコーはバーゼルワールド 2020に参加しないことと決定しました。

たいへん残念ではあるが、今般のSIHH/BaselWorld大改造によって、このように考えるブランドは他にも多いのではないだろうか。単に「場所」を提供することへのニーズが減ってきた、というデジタル時代の変革の１つかもしれない。
バーゼルワールドに代わる展開や方向性など、新たな発表がされ次第、随時お伝えしていく。
